Color images can be used in different practical applications, due to the greater quantity and quality of information provided by a captured scene. Mathematical morphology has been shown to be efficient in improving digital imaging. The use of mathematical morphology in color images requires a color space and an order between the components of the color image to be processed. Color images are represented by multidimensional data structures, which implies that there is no natural order for them.
In this work it is proposed to perform the improvement of color images using multiscale mathematical morphology with different color spaces and ordering methods. Experimental results show improvements in local and global contrast as well as color enhancement of digital color images.
