Abstract

This paper considers a public good game to model the free-rider prob-lem in the provision of water supply for small and medium size com-munities in the context of sanitation boards. The analysis is focusedon the level of cooperation achieved when only a percentage of thefree-riders are caught and their payoff reduced to zero. The systemis studied under the replicator dynamics scheme with two strategies, cooperation and defection. The results show an improvement in thelevel of cooperation, and even full cooperation can be obtained, witha moderate effort in chasing the free-riders.
