Abstract

Our main goal is to elucidate the biosynthesis of hyperforin in Hypericum perforatum. Two biosynthetic gene clusters encoding the first steps of hyperforin biosynthesis were discovered by genome mining. Functional characterization of genes in clusters led to a hyperforin precursor and a possible cryptic metabolite. Syntenic analysis revealed that the assembly of the two clusters is evolutionarily different.
