Abstract

This work evaluates the technical, economic and environmental aspects of producing a procyanidin-rich extract from açaí seeds in a biorefinery. The fixed capital investment is estimated at US$45.63 million, and a high profitability potential is envisaged — with an internal rate of return of 24.5%. This model of biorefinery displays lower contribution to global warming than the combustion of raw açaí seeds, thus representing a sustainable approach to add value to this waste.
