Pectis brevipedunculata has pleasant odor leaves that are used in calming teas (LORENZI; MATOS, 2002). The aim of this work was to extract the essential oil (EO) by hydrodistillation, analyzed it by GC-MS, and evaluate antimicrobial action. The major constituents of EO are β-Citral and α-citral (Table 1). The antimicrobial activity inhibited the bacterial growth of Salmonella sp. and S. aureus (Tables 2 and 3). It is concluded that the plant has biotechnological potential to be explored.
