Abstract

Aqueous residue after partition of Schwartzia brasiliensis Choisy ethanol leaf extract inhibited coagulant, hemolytic, proteolytic, hemorrhagic, edematogenic, and lethal activities of both Bothrops jararaca and B. jararacussu venoms, regardless of whether the sample was administered/incubated together with the venoms or after them. Moreover, some administration routes (intravenous, oral and subcutaneous) were investigated. The sample showed no toxicity to mice and red blood cells.
